In May/June of 2008, Kim and I took a vacation - Back to Wisconsin to visit with friends and family
Day 5/27 May - continued: Athelstane is a tiny fly speck on the map. Population 601 (in 2000), median income (per family) of appx $30,000.00. This small town hosted the restaurant of our adventure. One "Nimrod Inn". Looking over the menu, I made the mistake of assuming something wasn't 'deep fried'. I ordered Stuffed Shrimp. Butterflyed shrimp, stuffed with crab meat and monterey jack cheese. It sure sounded good. Little did I realize that they were going to serve up a battered, deep fried dish. Yuck! It was horrid. Kim's steak wasn't done correctly. She asked for rare and the thing arrived well done. After our hour plus trip, no one was willing to send their meal back or try a different restaurant. We ate the food, and proceeded to get lost on our way back to Mom and Dad's place. If only we'd brought the GPS (some people wouldn't trust the GPS further than they could throw it. so we didn't bring it)...
We made it back to our hotel around 2130 and spent some quiet time watching the news before we drifted off to sleep.
Day 6/28 May: We slept from 2230 - 0830. I would have slept longer, but the beds are a bit stiff. It's our last day up north, so we packed up our stuff, loaded it into the Passat, and checked out of our room. The accommodations were comfortable, and the staff was very responsive to our needs. We'll stay at the 'Shaffer Park Motel' again.
