In May/June of 2008, Kim and I took a vacation - Back to Wisconsin to visit with friends and family
Day 4/26 May - continued: For dinner we had steak, salmon, grilled vegetable and corn on the cob - cooked over the campfire. Cooking over the campfire can sometimes be a bit dangerous, but Kevin constructed a special grill which swivels into and out of the flame with relative ease. The salmon was done perfectly. If you cook it too long it gets tough, but Kevin's a professional chef - he knows exactly what he's doing.
After dinner, we sat down for a round of dominos. As usual some people didn't know the rules. As a result, there were raised voices, and accusations... Ugghh, I came home for vacation not frustration. I consulted the rules, placated the sore parties, and we concluded the game amiably. The double-twelves took us long into the evening, and Kim and I didn't get back to the hotel until nearly midnight.
Day 5/27 May: Kim and I slept from 2359-0830. Last night was a bit long, so we slept in. Afterwards we took showers to wash away the smell of smoke. We left the hotel and drove into Crivitz to get some gas. We gassed up at a Mobil station in Crivitz; $4.15 for premium. After gassing up the Passat, we headed back to Mom and Dad's place.
Kevin and Mom spent most of the day working around the house, while Kim and I had a lot of time on our hands. As lunch time rolled around, we ate left overs and took a little nap. We didn't do much of anything until dinner time approached.
For dinner, we planned a trip to a place Mom doesn't usually go to. Something that Kevin's friends recommended. The place was called the "Nimrod Inn". Located in Athelstane, this trip should have taken us 38 minutes to drive 28 miles. Unfortunately, we took the scenic route. As we drove all over the place, we ended up lost in a big way. We ended up outside Wabeno; approximately 25 miles out of our way. After asking for directions, we got back on track. It took us more than an hour to find Athelstane, and then we got lost again. We ended up leaving Athelstane, doubling back again, asking for directions, and eventually finding the restaurant after an hour and a half of driving around in the north woods. What an adventure!
