Large pump box Here is the front yard pump box. Here the pump valves are in the correct position for watering. Also note that the red drain valve is shut, to prevent flooding of the box.
Small pump box Here is the back yard pump box. Here the pump valves are in the correct position for watering. Also note that the red drain valve is in the 'off' position, to prevent flooding of the box.
Backflow valve Here we see the backflow valve with the switches in the 'off' position. This is the position they should be in during the winter months. The screw valves on the bleeder valves are in an open position. Left that way from the blowout in fall.
Bleeder valves Bleeder valves should be open after winter blow-out. Here they are open (not straight up and down). Leave them open so that any ice/water can drain out. In spring, they should be closed (straight up and down).
Plastic valve While the backflow valves are in the off position, examine this plastic valve component for cracks and damage. You don't have to remove it in the winter, but you may need to replace it in the spring. Replace the cap before you turn the water on.
Backflow open Here is the backflow valve with switches in the 'on' position. This is the proper position during the watering season. Don't forget to make sure that the bleeder valves are closed before turning on the water for the season.

Basement shut-off Here are the water mains shut-off valves. Notice that the line that leads to the sprinklers is in the 'off' position. The valve should be in this position during the winter months.
Water mains Here are the water mains shut-off valves. Notice that the line that leads to the sprinklers (on the right) is now in the 'on' position. Be sure to close the drain valve before opening the main.
Valve control box Here is the system control box. Ready for programming. We have six 'zones': Three in the front yard, two in the back yard, and one drip zone.
