Soldier (Dutch & U.S.), Miner, Farmer, City Councilman (Third Ward alderman from 1929-1933)
It is known that John moved to Germany after receiving a partial inheritance from an Uncle. He moved to Germany where he presumably lived with his aunt (recently widowed), and worked as a laborer before serving in the Dutch military.
After moving to the US, John joined the US Army. After his discharge from the military, he worked briefly in the Iron mines of upper Michigan, and farmed in the town of Rockland, Wisconsin before going to Minnesota. He farmed in Minnesota for six years. He then moved to Canada and established two homesteads in Saskatchewan province.
After eight years in Canada, he returned to Minnesota, where he resumed farming for six more years.
In 1920 (at appx age 55), he moved to De Pere, Wisconsin where he lived for the rest of his life in retirement.
